Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council’s Supported Internship Programme, is an exciting new opportunity for young people 18-25 years old with an agreed Education Health Care Plan (EHCP). A supported internship programme allows participants an opportunity to access education, careers and employment support prior to entering paid employment.
Young people accessing the BCP Supported Internship Programme attend tutor lead sessions hosted within BCP Civic Centre where they enhance and develop transferable employment skills. Alongside classroom-based work, the interns also work alongside BCP staff across a range of council departments supported during these placements by experienced job coaches.
The BCP Supported Internship Programme takes place over the course of an academic year (September until July). Interns who graduate from the course may go on and apply for employment within BCP Council or could choose to apply for work across the local area. Ongoing job coach support is offered as the interns transition into the world of employment.
BCP Council Supported Interns are keen to support future Interns in their application process. For updates of their experiences and further information, please visit our home page where you can find blog posts, pictures and videos offering a "day in the life of" perspective of what it means to be a BCP Supported Intern here
