Programme Structure
BCP Supported Internships are designed to give young people with Education Health Care Plans the opportunity to gain transferable work skills. The programme combines work placements with education. Once students complete the programme they graduate with the skills and experience that will support them in being able to gain employment in future. Within this one-year programme students will:
Take part in an assessment day:
Before starting the course, BCP staff and programme tutors and work coaches will meet with young people, and their parents or carers. This helps to ensure that the course is the right education and employment pathway option for them. This day is relaxed, informative and fun where families will hear about examples of work they may complete within BCP council.
Start Date: September
Successful young people will be invited to start their course
Complete a 3 Week Induction:
Starting work can be daunting. Before work placements young people will begin their programme by completing activities that help to build their confidence. They will get to know the staff that support the programme, alongside their job coach, and their tutor. All of whom work closely with young people each day to help them to:
- To get to know the environment
- Practice traveling to and from the place of work
- Become part of a team, developing professional relationships with fellow young people, colleagues, tutors and job coaches.
- Learn working practices, IT skills, customer services sills and complete BCP Council staff training modules and policies.
Work within Three Business Rotations:
After the induction weeks the interns will go out to experience work placements in business rotations. All interns will go into three different work environments, gaining transferable skills and doing different jobs to prepare for future opportunities. These rotations are tailored to the young people’s preferences and no two interns need to do the same three business rotations or roles.
