Name: Elle Squires

Previous school / work experience:

Education: Kingston Maurward College

Work experience: “There was a retail assistant position at the Estate shop which was based in the college by the animal park. My tasks there were cleaning, dusting, restocking shelves, pricing products, checking dates, serving customers, till using and money handling. I also spoke to customers on the phone. It sold local produce like eggs, vegetables and much more. They had all sorts of cakes, cards, stuffed toys and jewellery. There even was a section for gluten-free items for those who can’t have gluten. Before that I worked for a gardener at the college and I was cleaning paths, cutting hanging branches and watering plants, as well as talking to people and working in a team. Even before that I worked as an animal assistant meaning looking after animal well-being, cleaning out hutches as well as monitoring behaviour and doing health checks on the animals as well.”

How have you found starting at BCP?

“I’m finding it great and better than I suspected. I love the atmosphere in the room and working in a small group. I get on with everyone and I like making a good choice in friends.”

What is your first rotation?

“My first rotation is at the Prom Café and Tourist Information Centre which I’m starting on Tuesday.”

What do you enjoy most about being on the internship?

“What I enjoy most about the internship is the rotations we all get to do and learning more about work placements. I enjoy spending my lunch break with my friends and discuss about the day and what we are doing at the weekend.”
