Prize winning pupils provide the ideas for the new BCP Council Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) logo

Pupils, teachers, parents and children’s services staff have been busy bringing together their ideas and experiences to create the BCP Council Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM). This participatory project is part of a community-wide effort to enable all local schools to enhance their knowledge, skills and existing support systems associated with providing for diverse children’s needs, including those from vulnerable and minority groups.

As part of this project, pupils from schools across BCP Council were asked to submit their designs in a logo competition. Over fifty entries were received from across Primary, Secondary and Special school settings. The project team were inspired and impressed to see all the young people’s visions for what the concept of inclusion meant to them. Since the standard was so high, votes for the winning design (from teachers, professionals and illustrators) meant that three entries stood out as favourites. As a result, visual elements from two runner up designs (by Anna Jaimon, age 11 years and Dominik Witkowski, age 11 years) were incorporated into the final logo, which was based on the winning image (by Francesca Hammond, age 11 years).

The talented young artists were awarded their prizes, certificates, and keepsake design boards at a small celebratory event organised by BCP Council staff, where the new BCP Council IQM logo was officially unveiled. It is hoped that this inspiring logo image, and the ongoing efforts and enthusiasm of those involved with the IQM will help to embed a sense that ALL children and young people are valued as an important part of our local learning community and that, together, we can support each child to thrive.
