School Capital Team

Service

The Education and Skills Capital Team is responsible for identifying, scoping and delivering capital projects in schools and other education settings within the BCP Council Corporate Estate. The team allocates capital grants received from the Department for Education to create school places in line with local need for children in mainstream education, create additional school places for children with SEND, make adaptations to school buildings in order to make them more suitable for pupils with specialist requirements, and maintain the condition of schools for which the Local Authority has responsibility.

The team works with colleagues in Pupil Place Planning and SEND Sufficiency to determine the place planning needs of the authority and works with partner schools and academy trusts to identify appropriate locations for expansions. Alongside this, we work in partnership with Corporate Health and Safety and Facilities Management to support maintained schools in keeping their buildings safe for pupils and staff.

The Education and Skills Capital Team ensure that BCP Council meets its statutory duties by managing and delivering the capital programme to provide enough mainstream school places and enough specialist place to deliver the SEND Sufficiency Strategy. In addition to this, the Team supports BCP Council’s landlord duties for maintained schools and leased academies.
