Climate Change and Action Plan

Climate Change and Action Plans in Education Settings

The DfE are proposing that by 2025 all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan (CAP). A climate action plan is a detailed plan to enable your education setting, or trust, to progress or commence sustainability initiatives. Sustainability leadership could be a group of people or an individual responsible for the development and implementation of a CAP.

There is lots going on in BCP to support this; and schools, nurseries and colleges will be able to access a new support service to help develop these plans. Climate ambassadors are available to support the development of plans, there is free training on offer, and settings can nominate individuals to train to become ambassadors.

Climate Ambassador Programme - https://climateambassadors.org.uk/ provides in person volunteer support and regional networks to support development and delivery of the plans. Schools can also nominate colleagues to become an ambassador with free training.

The National Education Nature Park - https://www.educationnaturepark.org.uk/ who provide curriculum linked resources.

Lets Go Zero - Climate Action Advisors - Lets Go Zero who support schools on their journey to become zero carbon. Support is available to meet the DfE expectation across your setting including energy, waste, water, transport, nature, green skills and careers, curriculum, adaptation and resilience. There are also workshops available for colleagues online which introduce the CAP expectations, tools to gather a settings carbon footprint. A second workshop supports settings with suggested actions to include in their plans.
